A country can only run efficiently if the three major stakeholders work together: Government, business and civil society. In any community, it is important for citizens to be proactive and help in solving problems and being solution-oriented. Currently, many communities across the world are disempowered – either by not knowing how to get involved in a productive manner or because they do not want to play their part. For society to progress, everyone needs to be positive and empowered to make an impactful and sustainable change.
“Imagine how much better our lives would be if we had the commitment and effort of all citizens in doing the best for their community?”
Damelin Online’s Active Citizenship course is a “how to” guide that puts the participant on the right track to becoming an active citizen. The modules are designed to help start a project; work through each element of it and finally complete it and create a portfolio of evidence to prove you made a difference.
We chat to Subject Matter Expert, Amanda Blankfield-Koseff, about what active citizenship means; the aim of the course she has designed for Damelin Online and what a potential participant can expect to outcome upon conclusion of the course.
I strongly believe that society can only function at its best when everyone is working together towards a common goal. When there are challenges in one sphere, the job gets more difficult and we need to pull together to mitigate those risks and overcome as many challenges as possible. Currently in the world, many communities are disempowered, either by not knowing how to get involved in a productive manner or because they do not want to play their part.
The only way to move society forward is for everyone to be positive and empowered in order to make impactful and sustainable change. Imagine how much better our lives would be if we had the commitment and effort of all citizens in doing the best for the community?
I have been running skills development and active citizenship programmes in schools nationally for the past eight years, so I know the results of creating empowered and motivated citizens. It is amazing when the person realises they can “be the change” they want to see!
What participants can take from the course at the end
It is a practical course with many tools provided to make the project management elements simpler. There are many examples and links to resources that help to inspire the participant to do their best and become an active citizen by the end of the course.
The next Active Citizenship Course starts 04 September 2017. Find out more by downloading the FREE info pack here
